PSC Opens 1,000 Digital Literacy Internship Opportunities for Graduates

Thousands of ICT and education graduates looking for work experience have a new opportunity after the Public Service Commission (PSC) announced 1,000 internship positions under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5.

The 12-month programme will place successful applicants in schools and Sub-County Education Offices across Kenya, where they will support the use of technology in teaching and learning.

The opportunity is open to eligible graduates who completed their studies from 2022 onwards and have qualifications in ICT, ICT integration in education, or education with an ICT specialisation.

Applications are being submitted online through the PSC recruitment system, with the deadline set for October 5, 2026.

Here is everything applicants need to know about the 1,000 PSC Digital Literacy Programme internships, including the qualifications, responsibilities, duration, stipend and application process.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced 1,000 internship opportunities for young graduates under the Ministry of Education’s Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) Cohort 5.

The programme targets graduates with qualifications in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), ICT integration in education and education with an ICT specialisation.

Successful applicants will be deployed to schools and Sub-County Education Offices, where they will help strengthen the use of technology in teaching, learning and school administration.

The internship programme will run for 12 months and is designed to give young graduates practical workplace experience while supporting the government’s digital learning initiatives.

Who Can Apply?

The internship is open to graduates who completed their studies in 2022 or later from recognised institutions.

Applicants must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialisation in ICT
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in ICT
  3. A Diploma in ICT
  4. A Diploma in ICT Integration in Education

The PSC is also looking for applicants who have practical knowledge in areas such as computer networking and infrastructure, application development, information security and project management.

Candidates should also understand how ICT can be integrated into education, particularly in e-learning, digital content development, research and innovation.

What Will the Interns Do?

The selected interns will play a practical role in helping schools use digital technology more effectively.

Their responsibilities will include supporting e-learning and digital content development in line with school learning programmes. They will also assist teachers in using digital learning devices and other technology-based teaching resources.

Other responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting implementation of the Digital Literacy Programme
  2. Helping teachers integrate ICT into teaching, learning and assessment
  3. Supporting the development of digital learning innovations
  4. Training primary school teachers on the use of digital learning devices
  5. Providing first-line technical support for ICT services in schools
  6. Supporting basic maintenance of digital learning equipment and services
  7. Promoting safe, secure and ethical use of technology
  8. Assisting schools with ICT-related policies and procedures
  9. Supporting virtual learning and other digital education platforms

The programme therefore provides an opportunity for graduates to gain experience in both technical ICT work and educational technology.

Where Will Successful Applicants Work?

Successful candidates will be deployed on a full-time basis to schools and education offices at the sub-county level.

Applicants should therefore be prepared to work in a location assigned by the government. Being flexible about deployment will be important because candidates may not necessarily be placed in their home county or preferred town.

How Long Will the Internship Last?

The Digital Literacy Programme internship will run for 12 months and will not be renewable.

Interns will receive a government-determined stipend during the programme. Those who successfully complete the internship will also receive a certificate from the State Department for Basic Education.

The internship is intended to provide practical skills and professional experience rather than guarantee permanent employment after completion. The published information does not state that interns will automatically be absorbed into permanent government positions.

Who Is Not Eligible?

Applicants who have previously benefited from a similar government internship programme are not eligible for this opportunity.

Candidates should also ensure that they meet the academic requirements and provide complete and accurate information when submitting their applications.

Application Deadline

The deadline for submitting applications is October 5, 2026.

Interested graduates are required to apply online through the Public Service Commission recruitment system.

First-time users must register before applying. Applicants are required to provide their personal details, academic and professional qualifications and other information requested by the recruitment system.

The PSC advises applicants to review their information carefully before submitting their applications because incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants can also print or save their application summary for their records.

How to Apply

Applicants should use the official Public Service Commission recruitment platform rather than relying on individuals or unofficial agents.

Public Service Commission official website

The PSC recruitment system provides access to advertised vacancies and allows applicants to register, submit applications and check application information.

Application steps

  1. Visit the official PSC recruitment website.
  2. Register if you are a first-time applicant.
  3. Log into your account using your registered credentials.
  4. Complete your personal and academic information.
  5. Locate the Digital Literacy Programme internship advertisement.
  6. Confirm that you meet the qualification requirements.
  7. Complete and submit the application before the deadline.
  8. Save or print your application summary for future reference.

Important Warning to Applicants

Applicants should be cautious of people claiming that they can guarantee shortlisting or employment in exchange for money.

The Public Service Commission states that its services, including job placement and recruitment-related services, are provided free of charge. The Commission also warns the public about fraudsters who pose as PSC officials and request money in exchange for recruitment services.

Applicants should therefore avoid paying anyone who claims to have influence over the recruitment process.

Why the Internship Could Be Useful for ICT Graduates

The programme offers graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience in an area that combines technology and education.

An intern may gain exposure to areas such as technical support, networking, digital content, e-learning platforms, ICT training, information security and technology integration.

For graduates who are building careers in ICT, software development, networking, IT support, educational technology or digital transformation, the experience can add practical exposure to their academic qualifications.

However, applicants should remember that the programme is a 12-month, non-renewable internship, and the advertisement does not state that completing it guarantees permanent government employment.
