NextGen.ke: Kenya's Premier Youth Internship Programme Is Open — Apply Before 8th July 2026
Kenya's biggest new opportunity for young graduates is here. NextGen.ke is officially live, and it's inviting talented young professionals to join a structured internship programme built to launch real careers — not just fill CVs with another short-term gig.
If you're a Kenyan graduate looking for a genuine bridge from education into meaningful employment, this is worth your full attention. The application window closes on 8th July 2026, so time is short.
What Is NextGen.ke?
NextGen.ke is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Government of Kenya, and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). Together, these three institutions have built a premier internship programme designed to connect young Kenyans directly with some of the country's most respected companies — spanning sectors like telecoms, banking, media, construction, agribusiness, manufacturing, ICT, energy, and professional services.
The programme is anchored in Kenya's Vision 2030, the Medium-Term Plan IV, and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, reflecting a serious, government-backed commitment to tackling youth unemployment rather than a one-off pilot project.
It's already off to a strong start: over 500 young professionals have joined the programme, with backing that includes a Sh2 billion government allocation and private-sector partnerships — including a Sh75 million commitment from China Road and Bridge Corporation to onboard more than 1,000 youth trainees over the next three years. Over the next three years, the programme aims to benefit more than 15,000 graduates through structured, year-long placements.
Why This Programme Is Different
Kenya loses close to a million young people to the job market every year, yet only a quarter of them find formal employment. NextGen.ke exists specifically to close that gap between having a degree and having real workplace experience. Here's what sets it apart:.
- Stipend support — the programme provides stipends to interns, which also lowers the barrier for companies to bring on and mentor young talent.
- Merit-based matching — applicants are selected on merit and matched with companies through a dedicated platform, rather than relying on personal connections.
- National backing — with the Government of Kenya, UNDP's global reach, and KEPSA's private-sector network all involved, this isn't a small-scale scheme; it's designed to scale.
- Real companies, real sectors — placements span some of the biggest names and sectors driving Kenya's economy, giving interns exposure that can translate into permanent roles.
Who Can Apply
NextGen.ke is open to Kenyan graduates generally aged 18 to 35. If you have a university or college qualification and are looking for a genuine pathway into the private sector, this programme was built with you in mind.
How to Apply
- Visit the NextGen Kenya platform (kenyanextgen.co.ke) and register your details.
- Complete your application profile, including your qualifications and areas of interest.
- Submit before the deadline — applications close on 8th July 2026, so don't leave it to the last minute.
- Wait for the merit-based selection process, after which successful candidates will be matched with participating companies through the programme's employer portal.
Why You Shouldn't Wait
With a hard deadline of 8th July 2026, there's no room to sit on this one. Programmes backed by this level of government and institutional commitment don't come around often, and the pilot phase already shows strong momentum — meaning competition for spots will only grow as more companies and graduates join in future rounds.
If you've been waiting for a real shot at turning your degree into a career, NextGen.ke is exactly that shot. Head to the platform, get your application in, and take the first structured step toward the job you've been working towards.
Deadline: 8th July 2026. Don't miss it.
